Wildfires Blaze Across Carolinas
Multiple wildfires are burning across North and South Carolina, scorching thousands of acres and prompting mandatory evacuations, abc News reported on Monday.
- A state of emergency remains in place as hundreds of acres are consumed by the wildfires.
- Mandatory evacuation orders and voluntary evacuations remain in effect in both states.
- In Polk County, North Carolina, more than 5,700 acres have been destroyed, and the fires rage on at zero percent containment.
Helene debris: In September last year, large areas of America’s Southeast were ravaged by Hurricane Helene, particularly in North Carolina. The storm claimed the lives of at least 248 people. The fallen trees and debris left behind are not only fueling the fires but also hindering containment efforts.
It’s not just the high winds, the low humidity, the steep terrain, but they’re also dealing with storm debris that’s blocking utv trails, regular roads, and them just getting in on foot because we have so many trees down.
