China Calls for Stronger Ties With Europe
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi called for stronger ties with Europe during a meeting with Portuguese counterpart Paulo Rangel in Beijing on Tuesday.
Wang said China will work with Portugal to promote Chinese-European relations.
China regards Europe as an important pole in a multipolar world and supports Europe in maintaining its strategic autonomy.

Portugal is the only European country still part of China’s Belt and Road Initiative. It also abstained from a European Union vote to impose tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles last year.
In addition to Rangel’s visit, the French foreign minister and Italy’s Senate president are set to visit China and meet with top officials this week.
Looming trade war: European and Chinese leaders are increasingly interested in cooperation in the face of a looming trade war with the United States. President Donald Trump last month established a 10 percent tariff on all Chinese imports and has threatened even larger tariffs on the European Union.
Chinese-European trade relations were strained last year as the EU imposed double-digits tariffs on Chinese imports of electric vehicles. But with the threatening policies of the new Trump administration, China and Europe have shown an increasing willingness to rethink their relationship.
Mart of nations: Expect Europe and China to continue to ally themselves economically. Bible prophecy shows they will team up in a “mart of nations” and work to freeze the U.S. out of world trade.
