American Public Opinion Turns Against Foreign Allies
American opinions on foreign states are shifting, a poll conducted by the Economist and YouGov shows. The results were reported on Monday.
The data: Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the number of Republican voters who believe Ukraine to be hostile has increased 10 percent.
Before the United States presidential election on Nov. 5, 2024, the following percentages of Republican voters saw the below entities as “unfriendly” or an “enemy”:
- Canada, 12 percent
- European Union, 17 percent
- Russia, 85 percent (right after its invasion of Ukraine)
The latest polling, from March 22 to 25, shows a significant change in opinion:
- Canada, 27 percent
- EU, 29 percent
- Russia, 72 percent
Though not as severe, the same trends can be seen in Democratic voters.
European opinion: YouGov polling has also shown a major drop in Europeans’ favor of America. In August 2024, each of the following countries were about 50 percent positive toward America; today, those numbers have dropped:
- Britain, 37 percent
- Denmark, 20 percent
- France, 35 percent
- Germany, 30 percent
- Italy, 39 percent
- Spain, 40 percent
Prophesied enemies: The Bible reveals that many of America’s traditional allies—nations in Europe and Asia that have fought alongside America—will soon turn against it.
