Chinese Nationals Fighting for Russia Captured in Ukraine
Two Chinese nationals fighting for the Russian Armed Forces have been captured, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on Tuesday.
Zelenskyy said a clash with Chinese soldiers happened near villages in the Donetsk, where six Chinese military personnel fought against Ukrainian troops. Two Chinese nationals were taken captive. Zelenskyy added that there are “significantly more Chinese citizens in the occupier’s units than two.”
One of the captives was heard speaking Chinese in a video, mimicking drones flying overhead and explaining that his commander was hit.
Zelenskyy asked his top diplomat to “immediately contact Beijing.” If the soldiers are found to be following the orders of their government, China would be the third country to offer immediate military support to Russia after Iran and North Korea.
Chinese citizens fighting as part of Russia’s invasion army in Ukraine puts into question China’s declared stance for peace and undermines Beijing’s credibility as a responsible permanent member of the [United Nations] Security Council.

Chinese mercenaries: It is so far unclear whether the Chinese troops were state-sponsored or voluntary.
A number of Chinese nationals have claimed to be fighting for Russia since its 2022 invasion of Ukraine.
- One Chinese mercenary claimed on a video call posted on social media that eight North Korean officers were killed during his first day of deployment in Ukraine.
- He was speaking to another Chinese mercenary, who criticized the Russian military for its poor command.
- Another Chinese man in Russian military uniform was recorded describing his meal in Mandarin, with Russian dialogue in the background.
Asian army: Whether state-sponsored Chinese troops are now fighting alongside Russians or not, the Bible prophesies that a massive Asian army with 200 million soldiers, largely Chinese and Russian, will soon play a terrifying role in world events.
