Heed the Watchman

Heed the Watchman
In the decade leading up to the deadliest war in history, Winston S. Churchill was willing to say what no one else dared. While others clung to false peace, he foresaw devastating conflict and sought to prevent it. He was an outsider, ridiculed and dismissed. But as Germany grew stronger and Britain grew weaker, he did his duty and sounded the alarm, no matter the cost.
How true his words ring today.
In 1936 he warned, “Through our own folly and refusal to face realities and deal with evil tendencies while they were yet controllable, we have allowed brutal and intolerant forces to gain almost unchallenged supremacy in Europe and have placed ourselves in a position of weakness and peril, the like of which our history does not record for 2½ centuries.”
After the war, he decried “[h]ow the English-speaking peoples through their unwisdom, carelessness and good nature allowed the wicked to rearm” (The Second World War, Vol. 1).
The exact same trends are playing out today. In fact, the “unwisdom, carelessness and good nature” today is worse than a century ago. We have allowed evil forces to rise to the point where trying to contain them risks igniting nuclear World War iii.
Yet there is no political watchman to jolt us awake!
Letting the Wicked Arm
In World War ii, the Serbs allied with the United States and Britain against Germany. Yet in the 1990s, Germany compelled the foolish English-speaking peoples to bomb the Serbs, ignoring the dying screams of their own former allies and breaking up Yugoslavia for Germany’s benefit.
Yet to this day, no political watchman of stature has warned of the consequences.
Simple-minded politicians and analysts believe that Iran’s bloodthirst can be halted by negotiations, that Hamas terrorists only want equality, that Turkey’s threats of war are merely bluffs, that Japan’s militarization is for our good, and that North Korea’s unhinged aggression can be softened by talks.
In World War ii the Allies finally intervened after Germany invaded Poland. Yet for the past three years, Russia has marched in Ukraine. Aid from other countries has been only enough to hold Russia at bay but not to drive it back. And the most powerful leaders are calling for negotiation and appeasement.
China is rising as a new superpower, claiming islands, extending infrastructure, waging economic warfare near and far, developing cyberweapons, multiplying its nuclear warheads, and indirectly addicting and killing Americans through drug exports. Yet leaders in America and elsewhere won’t identify and respond to these evil acts as evil.
Hamas attacked Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, to murder, maim, rape and kidnap thousands of men, women and children. The barbarity of their actions equaled or exceeded that of the Nazis, yet many not only tolerated but celebrated the evil.
I wrote a booklet in 1999 titled Winston S. Churchill: The Watchman. It covers the history that led up to the Second World War. I encourage you to request a free copy of this booklet. In it I wrote, “If we truly believe in freedom, then we must support other nations and perhaps even fight for their freedom. But we lacked the will to do so before and during World War ii. We also lack the will today.”
Who is willing to defend the people in Serbia, Ukraine, Taiwan, Israel or any other place where freedom is threatened today?
If the wicked remain unrestrained, the infamous torture camps of World War ii will become child’s play compared to what is about to happen. Modern weaponry and technology could make Adolf Hitler’s dream of eradicating every trace of Jewish blood reality. Nuclear war is bound to leave hundreds of millions, even billions, dead.
Churchill Scorned Today
“Many authorities say World Wars i and ii were the greatest tragedies of the 20th century,” I wrote. “I disagree. The worst catastrophe is that we failed to learn a lesson from Churchill’s warning! That means we have retained our deadly capacity for deception into the nuclear age. That is why we are destined to experience a nuclear holocaust unless we wake up!”
Churchill’s warnings were proved right at a bloody, bloody cost. Yet today, the West scorns his great foresight. This is shameful, tragic and indeed deadly. We simply don’t recognize existential threats today.
Even world leaders who have busts of Churchill in their offices utterly fail to learn from his example. President Trump is urging Germany to rearm!
How can you ensure that you are not lulled asleep by deceitful world leaders, the lying media and careless politicians? Winston S. Churchill: The Watchman provides the answer.
“Those who fail to learn from history are destined to repeat its catastrophes!” I wrote. “Today a nuclear first strike is apt to win the next major war. So our margin for error is much smaller. That means we must stop a Hitler-type movement before it gains power. We can’t afford the pacifist attitude we had before World War ii and survive nationally. Yet our pacifist attitude today is far worse than it was then.”
When Lovers Betray You
The Bible prophesies that our enemies in the end time will be more sophisticated and subtle than Adolf Hitler was. We are going to be betrayed and attacked by our allies, or “lovers” (Ezekiel 16). And this in the age of nuclear weapons!
So many in our world ignore obvious evil—thus they cannot recognize the deceitful “lovers,” who can be even more dangerous.
Churchill did not make that mistake.
“Do not delude yourselves. Do not let His Majesty’s government believe—I am sure they do not believe—that all that Germany is asking for is equal status,” Churchill told the House of Commons on Nov. 23, 1932. “I believe the refined term now is ‘equal qualitative status by indefinitely deferred stages.’ That is not what Germany is seeking. All these bands of sturdy Teutonic youths, marching through the streets and roads of Germany, with the light of desire in the eyes to suffer for their Fatherland, are not looking for status. They are looking for weapons, and, when they have the weapons, believe me they will then ask for the return of lost territories and lost colonies, and when that demand is made it cannot fail to shake and possibly shatter to their foundations every one of the countries ….”
Who dares to say such things today? How greatly needed is such a warning!
In March, Germany passed a historic constitutional change that allows it to borrow money and spend hundreds of billions on infrastructure and weaponry. Americans and others whose grandfathers fought and died from German weaponry are now cheering this development. They are oblivious to the feelings of revenge simmering deep down in many Germans.
Churchill saw German car manufacturers and other industries shift toward arms production. We are now seeing the same thing. The country’s autobahn is more than a symbol of speed—it is part of its strategic military mobilization plans. Investments are made to turn the whole German landscape into a field ready for battle.
Germany is repeating the actions of the 1930s, yet no one is alarmed! Isn’t it because we failed to learn the lessons from World War ii?
What will happen when Germany rearms? What will happen when it allies with other nations that deeply despise America, Britain and the Jewish nation? What will happen when unhinged hatred gains access to chemical, biological and nuclear weapons of mass destruction, coupled with sophisticated cyberwarfare capabilities?
In that booklet, I wrote, “War is ready to explode in Europe and the Middle East. The global economy is on the verge of collapse!
“The time for polite words is past. It is time for the blunt truth.”
The “blunt truth” is that our entire world is headed toward suffering far more horrifying than the last world war. Since I wrote those words, Europe and the Middle East have exploded into war. It is not too late to heed this warning, but it soon will be!
A Watchman and a Prophet
“The people wouldn’t face Churchill’s warning until it was almost too late,” I wrote. “He talked about the possible ‘end’ of Britain’s glories. But the people did not want to think about the bloody dangers of a world explosion. They didn’t want to be disturbed from their comfortable routine and pleasures.”
Churchill once said, “The habit of saying smooth things and uttering pious platitudes and sentiments to gain applause, without relation to the underlying facts, is more pronounced now than it has ever been in my experience.”
Churchill’s reference to “smooth things” was a quote from the Bible about people rejecting the hard messages brought by prophets sent by God Himself. He didn’t know it, but it also refers to a prophecy specifically for us in this end time!
“Now go, write it before them in a table, and note it in a book, that it may be for the time to come for ever and ever: That this is a rebellious people, lying children, children that will not hear the law of the Lord: Which say to the seers, See not; and to the prophets, Prophesy not unto us right things, speak unto us smooth things, prophesy deceits” (Isaiah 30:8-10).
As Winston S. Churchill: The Watchman explains, this prophecy addresses God’s spiritual and national leaders today. These leaders prefer “deceits” so they can continue their rebellion against God’s law. They reject prophecy and want “smooth things” so they can believe that the day of reckoning is in the distant future.
However, this day is coming quickly, and the Bible’s prophecies are speeding toward fulfillment. And even though there is no political watchman on the scene today, God has sent one man to warn. He is not only a watchman but also a prophet.
The day will come when the world recognizes God’s warning through this man, just as the world woke up, tragically too late, to Churchill’s warning. Prophecy indicates that it will take even more astonishing horror to wake up mankind. But God would not be a merciful God if He didn’t give individuals the chance to heed His message even as their nations fall apart. The time to heed the watchman is now.
