34 Killed in One of Russia’s Deadliest Attacks on Ukraine

Two Russian ballistic missiles struck Sumy, Ukraine, near the city center on Sunday morning, killing 34 people and wounding 117 others in one of Russia’s deadliest attacks on Ukrainian civilians.

Homes, schools, shops and other buildings were damaged. Vehicles burned and bodies were strewn throughout the street. At least two children were killed, and 15 children were injured.

This is the war’s deadliest civilian attack since 2023, when 51 Ukrainians were killed in strikes on Kupiansk.

Deadly day: Other Russian attacks throughout Ukraine made it one of the deadliest days for civilians in months.

  • A Russian attack on Kupiansk killed three civilians and injured one.
  • One person was killed and six were injured in Donetsk by another Russian strike.
  • Eight people were injured in Odessa from a Russian drone strike.

In total, at least 40 people were killed and 141 injured, according to Ukrainian officials.

Peace? The attacks came just two days after United States Special Envoy Steve Witkoff met with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday to discuss a potential ceasefire and peace agreement. This was their third meeting.

In the Trumpet’s April issue, Trumpet editor in chief Gerald Flurry wrote that U.S. President Donald Trump “has done a lot of great things for America. But he has a serious blind spot when it comes to peace negotiation and international diplomacy.” Mr. Flurry warned that Putin’s actions show he is not looking for peace.
