Iran nominates terrorist for defense minister post

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has nominated Ahmad Vahidi to be Iran’s new defense minister. Vahidi is wanted in connection with the bombing of the Argentine-Israeli Mutual Association (aima) in 1994, which killed 85 and wounded 200.

Vahidi headed an arm of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard that is involved in operations abroad, known as the Quds Force, at the time of the attack. “It has been demonstrated that Vahidi participated in and approved of the decision to attack aima during a meeting in Iran on August 14, 1993, when he led the Quds Force,” said Argentina Prosecutor Alberto Nisman. Interpol has said that it will help Argentina arrest Vahidi, and other prominent Iranian terrorists.

Iran’s parliament has yet to approve Vahidi’s nomination.
