Worshiping the Will

From the book America Under Attack
By Gerald Flurry

World War ii killed an unimaginable 60 million people and inflicted some of the worst suffering in history. And it was started by Adolf Hitler.

Hitler believed that if you tell a big lie and repeat it often enough, people will believe it. He wrote in Mein Kampf, “[I]n the big lie there is always a certain force of credibility; because the broad masses of a nation are always more easily corrupted in the deeper strata of their emotional nature than consciously or voluntarily; and thus in the primitive simplicity of their minds they more readily fall victims to the big lie than the small lie, since they themselves often tell small lies in little matters but would be ashamed to resort to large-scale falsehoods.”

That may sound strange, but Hitler used it with frightening effectiveness. He claimed that the German Army did not lose World War i on the battlefield, but instead had been stabbed in the back by the Jews. There was no evidence for this claim, but Hitler repeated it until people fell for it. He blamed the Versailles Treaty and held the West responsible for the political and economic turmoil plaguing Germany’s Weimar Republic. Germans came to believe Hitler, elected him chancellor, and supported his industrial-scale extermination of some 6 million Jews.

We have not learned from this history as we should. Could something similar happen today? Could someone stir up a political revolution simply by repeating a blatant lie over and over and over until enough people believe it?

Could it happen in America? Well, it absolutely has already happened to a shocking degree!

Hermann Rauschning was president of the Free City of Danzig in Germany from 1933 to 1934. He briefly joined the Nazi movement before breaking with it. He had many conversations with Hitler that he later wrote down in his book Hitler Speaks.

He wrote that during these talks, Hitler spoke a lot about the psychology of lying. Rauschning recalled that on one occasion, Hitler said: “What you tell people in the mass in a receptive state of fanatic devotion will remain. Words received under a hypnotic influence are radical and impervious to every reasonable explanation.” He also recalled Hitler on other occasions saying: “We are now at the end of the Age of Reason”; “A new age of magic interpretation of the world is coming, of interpretation in terms of the will and not of intelligence”; “There is no such thing as truth either in the moral or the scientific sense.”

You must come to recognize how this same spirit saturates the radical left in American politics.

From where did Hitler get that psychology of lying? The answer is in John 8:44, where Jesus Christ said of Satan the devil that he “abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.”

Rauschning called Hitler a “master enchanter.” Hitler had an intense fascination with occult magic. Much of what he told Rauschning about “a new age of magic interpretation” came from the German occultist Ernst Schertel. Schertel’s Magic: History, Theory and Practice was one of the most heavily annotated books in Hitler’s personal library.

Hitler’s annotations include highlights such as “the difference between ‘true’ and ‘false’ has disappeared,” and “quite a lot is gained with [magic]: namely the possibility to … change the world according to our will. But this is magic, and on this basis we are able to create reality where no reality is.”

Hitler believed he did not need to rely on reason, intelligence, reality, truth or God. Instead, he worshiped his own human will and believed he could create his own reality.

Consciously or subconsciously, a great many people today believe the same thing. They just lie until they convince not only those around them but even themselves that they are right!

We are seeing bold, blatant lies become a bigger and bigger part of today’s political landscape. It is stunning how utterly unapologetic our leaders have become in saying things that are clearly, provably false. And in the rare cases when they are caught and called out, they say they never said those things, or they insist that what is false is actually true. They are shameless!

Isn’t this exactly what Hitler was describing? These people believe that if they say something, it is true! They think that if they will it, then everyone should believe them.

This is a sure sign of Satan’s growing power. We are seeing the work of this lying murderer at his worst! He is the father of lies; there is no truth in him. But he will still look you boldly in the eye and insist that everything he says is the truth!

When campaigning for a second term, Obama said, “You may be frustrated sometimes with the pace of change. I’m frustrated too sometimes. But you know where I stand. You know what I believe. You know I tell the truth.” That was a mountainous lie!

Conservative commentator Glenn Beck responded to the president’s statement: “This is more a judgment on America and the press. I’ve never looked back and marveled at how many people will fall for and accept, knowingly accept, a falsehood. I’ve never seen it before in my life.”

That is because times are different! You can’t explain this kind of unprecedentedly open, brazen deceit unless you go to the Bible and realize that Satan has been cast down and that his influence is greater than ever!

This is a terribly dangerous trend: people using lies to achieve political ambitions, to impose a radical agenda on others, and to destroy people’s lives.

Barack Obama is followed by people in government and in the media who worship the will, and he dominates. Those people are following that will! And in truth, Obama is actually following that will, too. He and the others do not realize that they are following Satan’s will!

Mass Formation Psychosis

One unmistakable example of this phenomenon is the way American politicians responded to covid-19. They exaggerated the threat of the virus, assumed unprecedented powers, and used those to take radical measures that destroyed hundreds of thousands of businesses, locked people up within their own homes, disrupted the education of millions of children, turned people against each other by encouraging them to report their neighbors—they perpetrated untold problems. Then they promoted experimental vaccines, even mandating them for people to keep their jobs or use basic services. They trampled the Bill of Rights. They censored truth and told lie upon lie.

Yet millions of people went right along with them!

Dr. Robert Malone, who helped make the major breakthrough in mrna study in 1988 that laid the foundation for the mrna technology used in millions of covid-19 vaccine shots, compared society’s response today to what happened in Germany during the 1920s and ’30s. There you had a “very intelligent, highly educated population, and they went barking mad. And how did that happen? The answer is mass formation psychosis,” he told Joe Rogan on January 3, 2022.

“When you have a society that has become decoupled from each other and has free-floating anxiety and a sense that ‘things don’t make sense, we can’t understand it’—and then their attention gets focused by a leader or series of events on one small point—just like hypnosis, they literally become hypnotized, and can be led anywhere,” he said. Dr. Malone said an unscrupulous leader can take advantage of that to get his people to do anything.

It doesn’t matter whether they lied to them, or whatever. The data are irrelevant,” he continued. “And furthermore, anybody who questions that narrative is to be immediately attacked. They are the ‘other.’ This is central to mass formation psychosis. And this is what has happened.”

There is a definite reason why masses of people have done and are doing insane things. It stems from people trusting their own will—relying on and exalting their emotions, urges and even reasonings—rather than submitting to God’s will.

The Apostle Paul wrote about this subject: “Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels [demons, it should read], intruding into those things which he [has] seen [that is the correct translation], vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind …. Which things have indeed a shew of wisdom in will worship …” (Colossians 2:18, 23).

This is exactly what Hitler was talking about: will worship. He spoke of “magic interpretation … in terms of the will.” Hitler said, in effect, This is how it works now: Your logic, facts, evidence and truth won’t stop us. We follow a “magic interpretation” today. Will worship is impervious to truth. It insists that there is no absolute truth. Don’t look to the Bible for answers; you can have a magic interpretation of things. The implication is, Just follow our will!

Paul reveals what happens when you worship the human will: It leads to worshiping demons! That is because the human mind is so vulnerable to the broadcasting, deception and influence of the “prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience,” Satan the devil (Ephesians 2:2). This is especially true of a mind full of vanity, like Satan’s is.

Following a human will really means following Satan’s will!

When human beings reject God’s truth, they start worshiping their own opinions. They start thinking like Satan. When this type of thinking becomes entrenched enough, people stop even caring about the difference between true and false. They start trying to magically “create reality where no reality is.” Satan’s broadcasts make us impervious to reason—if we allow it.

That is the new age Hitler worked toward. That is the world Satan wants.

This influence has taken over America’s political scene. Can you recognize it?

Paul warned not to let anyone beguile you this way: “Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ” (Colossians 2:8). The Good News Bible translates the expression “rudiments of the world” as “ruling spirits of the universe.” Thayer’s Lexicon says it means “to invade, of evils coming into existence among men and beginning to exert their power ….”

What is will worship? It means being ruled by the demon world! That is what Paul warned against in Colossians 2.

There is an evil spirit world. There are spirit beings, and they have real power! You cannot explain what happened to the Germans in the 1930s or the Americans in the 2020s or other such episodes in history any other way.

Scripture makes this reality exceedingly plain. Read the Gospels, for example, and you see that Jesus Christ frequently cast out demons. Where did those demons go? They didn’t die. Millions of them are cast down and confined to this Earth along with Satan the devil (Revelation 12:7-12).

If you are not rooted in God’s Word, you are, as Hitler said, “easily corrupted in the deeper strata of [your] emotional nature.”

Bible prophecy shows that will worship is going to lead to fierce, intense suffering—even worse than it did in World War ii. The only way to escape the devastating catastrophes prophesied to engulf America is to be rooted in truth—based on the Word of God.
