Trump Signals an End to Engagement With Iran
In his speech to Arab heads of state this week in Saudi Arabia, U.S. President Donald Trump repeatedly attacked Iran. He went after Iran for funding arms deals in proxy nations and training militias that spread destruction and chaos. The king of Saudi Arabia also railed against Iran, calling the country “the spearhead of terrorism.” Saudi Arabia rolled out the red carpet for Mr. Trump because it is terrified of Iran and it wants the U.S. to stand up to the mullahs leading that nation. Is President Trump the Target of a Political Coup?
America’s major media exploded when anonymous sources said President Donald Trump revealed classified information to Russia. The real scandal, however, is that Mr. Trump “appears to be the target of a political coup,” argued Jake Novak in piece posted on cnbc. “Someone at the highest levels of government has leaked information to the news media. … That’s potentially a serious crime. And this wasn’t the first time,” Novak wrote. Donald Trump fired FBI Director James Comey Tuesday night. The liberal media had a meltdown: It was Trump’s “Tuesday night massacre”; it was a taste of fascism; America is now experiencing a full-blown constitutional crisis. CBSN, desperate for more coverage to keep the pointless story alive, even sent a reporter to Sochi, Russia, to track down Vladimir Putin for his comments. He was in full hockey garb when the reporter finally got to him for questions. His response: “Your question looks very funny for me.” The scene in Washington is what you’d expect to see in a high school cafeteria. Meanwhile, as America’s major media is hypnotized by the White House drama, the very thing they fear in a Trump presidency will soon happen in Europe.
Two Momentous Elections
France has just muddled through a hugely important election. Neither of its mainstream parties made it to the final round—revealing the depth of the political crisis the nation faces. The far-right National Front didn’t win, but it achieved its best-ever result. Meanwhile, Britain is also preparing for an election. Here the main left-wing party, the Labour Party, has been taken over by politicians arguably more extreme than the National Front’s. In today’s program, Trumpet contributing editor Richard Palmer examines what the rise in these extremists says about the state of these countries.
