Famine and Pillage in Africa
Show Notes
- The nation of Somalia on the Horn of Africa is currently suffering the most severe drought in its history, and the crisis is exacerbated by Russia’s war on Ukraine and global inflation. Experts warn that Somalia could soon be in full-blown famine.
- The Chinese have long used a combination of anti-Western sentiments and truckloads of cash to win friends in the upper rungs of Zimbabwe’s government, and they’re increasingly using those connections to extract Zimbabwe’s resources, including lithium. Chinese appetite for lithium paints a dark picture for Zimbabwe’s future.
- A key factor in Russia’s war on Ukraine is the role of religion. The Russian Orthodox Church and the Ukrainian Orthodox Church are intimately linked, and the head of the Russian Orthodox Church is among the most outspoken supporters of Russia’s war. So it was a bombshell when investigators recently learned about this man’s political past.
- We also discuss the ides of March and the value of studying the writings of the man who brought this phrase into the common parlance.
