Every Nation for Itself (7 minutes)
Coronavirus is causing an immediate restructuring of the world order. The crisis is leading to social revolutions in some nations and is contributing to the rise of authoritarians in others.
Long Live the Lockdown (11 minutes)
Australia (with 65 coronavirus deaths) is extending its lockdown, possibly for another year. The United Kingdom announced it will lockdown for another three weeks. The state of New York will remain in lockdown for another 30 days. We were told the lockdowns were meant to “flatten the curve” to keep hospitals from being overwhelmed. Even though that has been achieved, the lockdowns continue.
Authoritarian States (10 minutes)
In Michigan, the governor has banned the sale of things like paint and seeds. Visiting family is illegal. The state’s attorney general is encouraging employees to snitch on their bosses if companies violate the new decrees. In New Jersey, the governor said he didn’t even consider the Bill of Rights when he decided to suspend civil liberties. In California, the coronavirus crisis is being used as an excuse to implement a radical agenda.
Making It Up as We Go (10 minutes)
On one hand, CNN’s Chris Cuomo and his wife must separate, even though they have both already had coronavirus. On the other hand, Dr. Anthony Fauci said casual sex with strangers is alright as long as you’re willing to accept the risk. In the United Kingdom, police are kicking people out of public parks for sitting alone and reading a book. At the same time, large crowds in London gather to applaud the service of NHS workers. It’s impossible to make sense of the many new rules.
