Why Is America Trying to Protect Rafah?

America’s Middle East relations have been fundamentally transformed.

“We stand with Israel. And we will make sure Israel has what it needs to take care of its citizens, defend itself, and respond to this attack.” Three days after Hamas’s October 7 invasion of Israel, United States President Joe Biden broadcast that message to the world. But today, America’s top priority seems to be keeping Israel out of Rafah.

On May 11, the Washington Post reported that the U.S. “is offering Israel valuable assistance … including sensitive intelligence to help the Israeli military pinpoint the location of Hamas leaders [including Yahya Sinwar, the mastermind behind the October 7 massacre] and find the group’s hidden tunnels.” This may sound good, but it comes with a major string attached: The Biden administration only offered this intelligence in an effort to “stave off a full-scale Israeli invasion of Rafah.”

The implication is that the Biden administration knows where Sinwar is, could have told Israel at any time for at least several weeks, yet has refused to do so. Only now that Israel is poised to go into Rafah is it volunteering that information. This would be comparable to Israel knowing the location of Osama bin Laden but not telling the U.S.

Biden vs. Israel

Biden has tried many tactics to prevent Israel’s invasion of Rafah. He is trying to convince Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that he can eliminate Hamas through precise assaults on crucial targets instead of a full-scale invasion. In early May, Biden halted specific weapons shipments to Israel, going against his initial pledge of help.

Veteran journalist Lee Smith wrote: “With the White House all out of sticks, it had no other option but to offer Jerusalem a carrot, Sinwar.”

Sinwar is a high value target, but eliminating him will not eliminate Hamas. Hamas is deeply grounded in Gaza, and Sinwar is expendable to the terrorist group. The Biden administration claims that killing Sinwar would elevate Hamas’s other leaders, whom he claims to be more moderate. But Hamas leaders will continue to carry out Iran’s orders, regardless of Sinwar’s influence. The destruction of Israel is in their charter. This is not something they will be moderate about.

The White House is willing to hand over Sinwar to protect the rest of Hamas. Biden has warned Netanyahu against eliminating Hamas, saying the pursuit of “complete victory” will only “further isolate Israel.”

This administration has repeatedly pushed for deals that would leave Hamas intact and in charge of Gaza. This cannot bring Israel lasting peace and security because Hamas has made clear that it will always seek to destroy Israel and its people.

Hamas has always been very clear. Their goal is to wipe Israel off the face of the Earth, and, more specifically, their goal is to kill Jews. They say it. They’ve always said it. They haven’t hidden it. They are a terrorist organization. They’ve always been a terrorist organization.

Which raises the question, why is the Biden administration protecting Hamas?

The answer becomes clear when one considers who really runs the Biden administration.

Obama

It has been obvious since Biden’s inauguration that Barack Obama is calling the shots. Throughout Obama’s presidential tenure, he had a pro-Iran, anti-Israel stance. His 2016 nuclear deal with Tehran, which Donald Trump pulled out of and Biden renewed, empowered Iran. Obama claimed it was designed to stop Iran from getting the bomb by elevating the moderates in Iran—the same story the current administration is telling about Hamas. But anyone who looked into the deal with an honest eye could clearly see its real intent.

The Iran deal was more than a foreign-policy blunder or a bad deal. It was the device that Obama consciously used to transform America.
—Lee Smith, “Why the Iran Deal Matters

Obama’s Hamas policy is a direct continuation of his Iran policy. According to Smith, “Hamas … is a pillar of the U.S.-Iran condominium in the Middle East.” If Israel eliminates Hamas in Gaza, it will jeopardizing Obama’s plans. Thus, Obama is willing to sacrifice Sinwar for the sake of his overall strategy.

But why stand with Iran? When asked this question in an interview with the Trumpet, Smith replied:

American foreign policy, historically … is that we are allied with people who share our values. … [F]or Barack Obama, that’s the same thing. And what I mean by that is, look at what happened during the Trump years. Look at how Barack Obama and Barack Obama deputies spied on the Trump transition team. … This is all Third World, right? This is not supposed to come from America. … Right now, Iran embodies … all the Third World-ists. … That’s why Obama partnered with Iran. … Barack Obama is a creature of the Third World, and he’s most sympathetic to the most vicious, ugliest Third World regimes that are out there.

In an attempt to “fundamentally transform America,” Obama began fighting Israel and elevating its enemies. Under Obama, America is against Israel!

Prophetic Perspective

Bible prophecy foretold thousands of years ago this exact trend we see today. Ninety percent of Bible prophecy is for this end time and includes specific prophecies of modern nations, including the U.S., Israel and Iran.

In his book The United States and Britain in Prophecy, Herbert W. Armstrong proved that the modern Jewish state descended from the ancient Israelite tribe of Judah, that the U.S. descended from the tribe of Manasseh, and that Britain descended from Ephraim. In Bible prophecy, the nation of Israel is often referred to as “Judah,” and the U.S. as “Manasseh” or “Israel.” In multiple places, the Bible prophesies of an American betrayal of Israel.

Isaiah 9:21 reads: “Manasseh shall devour Ephraim, and Ephraim Manasseh; Together they shall be against Judah” (New King James Version). Zechariah 11:14 says God will “break the brotherhood between Judah and Israel.”

The world is turning against Israel on a larger scale and at a faster rate than ever before. When Israel most needs friends, its brother nation and top ally is turning away. Circumstances will not get better for the Jewish state. Jerusalem will turn elsewhere for help—to its detriment. Obama’s fundamental transformation has set the stage for the fulfillment of this prophecy.
