Supreme Court Won’t Protect Free Speech

The United States Supreme Court handed the Biden administration a big win on June 26, throwing out a challenge to federal government efforts to censor social media posts.

The 6-to-3 decision, led by Justice Amy Coney Barrett, was a response to a suit against the U.S. government claiming that the government pressured social media companies to censor posts critical of the Biden administration. The Twitter Files released by owner Elon Musk proves the federal government did censor such information, yet the majority ruling in Murthy v. Missouri was that the plaintiffs did not have “standing” to make a complaint because they were not injured by this activity.

Conservative dissent: Justice Samuel Alito wrote the dissent, joined by justices Clarence Thomas and Neil Gorsuch. It noted: “We are obligated to tackle the free speech issue that the case presents. The court, however, shirks that duty and thus permits the successful campaign of coercion in this case to stand as an attractive model for future officials who want to control what the people say, hear and think.”

In other words, the government violated the First Amendment by instructing social media companies to censor information critical of the Biden administration. Yet because this activity did not affect the plaintiffs in the case anymore or less than it affected everyone in America, the court threw out the case.

‘Deep state’: In his article “Barack Obama and the Twitter Files,” Trumpet editor in chief Gerald Flurry highlighted how much corruption the Twitter Files have exposed, but he also pointed out that none of the Twitter Files delved into what was going on at Twitter while Barack Obama was in office. This is because even Elon Musk fears Obama.

Obama established the partnership between the government and social media, yet neither Musk nor Matt Taibbi (the journalist who wrote much of the Twitter Files) has delved into what happened between 2009 and 2017. It seems like Twitter is protecting Obama, and now the Supreme Court is protecting him as well.

All Americans have “standing” when it comes to the government censoring information about the Hunter Biden laptop and other topics. But few in power have the courage to confront such lawless behavior.
