Jack Smith Must Close Prosecutions Against Trump

Special Counsel Jack Smith is working with the Department of Justice to close two criminal cases he brought against Donald Trump two years ago.

Winning the presidential election on Tuesday has freed Trump from the possibility of going to jail since a sitting president cannot be prosecuted.

  • The deadline to close charges is January 20, Inauguration Day.
  • Trump has promised to fire Smith, who was illegally appointed over the case, “within 2 seconds” of taking office.

What this means: Trump has been protected not only physically but also politically for a very specific purpose. With the various criminal cases now dissipating, Trump can focus his energy on saving America, though it will only be temporary.
