North Korea Expanding Missile Plant to Aid Russia
Satellite images show that North Korea is expanding a weapons factory that makes missiles Russia is using in Ukraine, Reuters reported on Monday, citing the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies, a United States-based think tank.
Why it matters: Russia and North Korea recently signed a mutual defense treaty.
- North Korea has sent Russia multiple weapons shipments.
- Ten thousand North Korean soldiers are now fighting alongside Russia.
- Pyongyang could send up to 100,000 troops soon.
Details: The “February 11” plant is part of the Ryongsong Machine Complex in North Korea’s second-largest city, Hamhung. This is the only North Korean facility known to make the Hwasong-11 class (called KN-23 in the West) solid-fuel ballistic missiles.
The images, taken in October by commercial satellite firm Planet Labs, appear to show the construction of an assembly building and housing facility, as well as improvements to the plant’s entrances to its underground facilities.
- The new assembly building is 30 to 40 percent smaller than its predecessor.
- South Korean satellite imagery firm SI Analytics suspects some of the work near the plant’s loading area could be used to hide future operations from satellites.
Prophesied alliance: The Bible reveals that Russia will soon lead a massive Asian alliance. Its heightened partnership with North Korea points to this prophecy.
