Turkey Offers Military Cooperation to Syria’s HTS
After the Islamist rebel alliance Haiat Tahrir al-Sham (hts) overthrew the Assad regime and chased out its supporters, Russia and Iran, Turkey reopened its embassy in Damascus and offered military cooperation.
Turkish Defense Minister Yasar Guler announced on Sunday that the new leadership should be given “a chance.”
[Turkey is] ready to provide the necessary support if the new administration requests it. It is necessary to see what the new administration will do. We think it is necessary to give them a chance.
—Yasar Guler
