China Bullies Japan in Its Territorial Waters
Japan has protested, through diplomatic channels, China’s illegal incursions into its territorial waters, Kyodo News reported on Wednesday.
- Four Chinese Coast Guard ships were reported to have entered Japanese waters near the Senkaku Islands in the East China Sea.
Though administered by Japan, China claims the Senkaku Islands as its own, just as China claims territories belonging to 16 of its other neighbors. Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi said the latest intrusion is “a violation of the international law” and promised to take determined action to defend Japan against Chinese aggression.
Pattern of aggression: Much attention is called to China’s bullying of the Philippines and other nations in the South China Sea. But this week’s incident at the Senkaku Islands is evidence that it is not just the South China Sea that China insists on controlling.
China is growing increasingly belligerent toward its neighbors’ sovereign territories, maritime and terrestrial alike.
On the war path: China is determined to become the dominant power in Asia and beyond. It has proved that it will disregard international law and bully sovereign nations to further these dark ambitions.
