France to Issue Invasion and Nuclear Event Survival Manual
France is preparing to hand out survival manuals to prepare its citizens in the event of an “imminent threat” to the country, the Telegraph reported on March 19. The 20-page manual will help citizens prepare for an armed conflict, natural disaster, industrial accident or nuclear event.
Measures: Originally drafted in 2022 during the covid-19 pandemic, the manual outlines 63 measures citizens can take in the event of one of these emergencies, including:
- Signing up for reserve forces to help defend the country
- Joining firefighting groups
- Putting together survival kits consisting of water, food rations, batteries, medical supplies and a flashlight
It also gives instructions on what to do in the case of a nuclear event, such as telling citizens to “lock their doors” and stay inside.
“The purpose of this document is to ensure the resilience of populations in the face of all types of crisis, whether natural, technological, cyber or security-related,” a spokesman from France’s prime minister’s office said.
Once French Prime Minister François Bayrou approves the manual, it will be sent to all households before the summer.
Preparing for conflict: French President Emmanuel Macron warned earlier this month that Europe must prepare to confront the “Russian threat” and other dangers facing the Continent. As issues in the region continue to develop and the United States pulls out its support, Europe is rearming and preparing for conflict.
Such manuals haven’t been sent out since the Cold War, when fear of a nuclear world war was high. With all the conflicts and tension around the world, nuclear war seems a real possibility again.
