The Crown Jewels of Charlemagne

Europe today is mesmerized by the crown and the crown jewels of Charlemagne—just as Adolf Hitler was. The late European Parliamentarian Otto von Habsburg, a descendant of the Habsburg dynasty that ruled the Holy Roman Empire for 400 years, talked about the crown of Charlemagne meaning a great deal to the Germans. Other nations hardly recognize this artifact, but they should not be blind to its significance to Germany!
“We do possess a European symbol which belongs to all nations of Europe equally,” Habsburg said. “This is the crown of the Holy Roman Empire, which embodies the tradition of Charlemagne.” Hitler was passionate about obtaining the crown jewels of Charlemagne!
Hitler and Italian fascist dictator Benito Mussolini are unquestionably a part of the tradition of Charlemagne, yet European leaders today skip right past them to focus on Charlemagne himself.
When Hitler was in Austria, he came to believe that God had replaced the Jews with the Germans as the chosen people of God.
In 1938, at a rally in Nuremberg, “Hitler had brought from Vienna, after 140 years, the insignia of the First Reich—the imperial crown, the orb of empire, the scepter and the imperial sword. At the presentation of these symbols of imperialism, he solemnly vowed that they would remain in Nuremberg forever” (John Toland, Adolf Hitler).
No one could take the crown jewels away from Hitler! They became a crucial part of his Third Reich, like they were in Charlemagne’s First Reich. Who is really aware of this connection?
In 2000, I was in attendance to see United States President Bill Clinton receive the Charlemagne Prize. When former German President Roman Herzog received that prize on May 8, 1997, he said, “For 1,000 years, the destiny of our continent has revolved around the choice between a cohesive or a fragmented Europe. Charlemagne, after whom our prize is named, made his own particular choice: the first unification of Europe. At such an hour, the truth must be told: only by wading through a sea of blood, sweat and tears did he reach his goal.”
Herzog was sort of bragging about the violence of Charlemagne, which inspired Hitler to cause the death of 60 million people in World War ii! Charlemagne was the second head of the Holy Roman Empire; Hitler and Mussolini were the sixth (request our free book The Holy Roman Empire in Prophecy for proof).
The Holy Roman Empire is now rising again. We will soon see this superpower in Europe paired down to 10 “kings,” or 10 main nations (Revelation 17:12).
When a German leader and a French leader met in 1978 in Aachen, Germany, Charlemagne’s burial place, to discuss the formation of the European Union, they felt like the spirit of Charlemagne was brooding over them, Bernard Connolly wrote in The Rotten Heart of Europe. European Union leaders are working to re-create the empire of Charlemagne, but most of them will not like the beast they are reawakening!
A modern Charlemagne is about to come on the scene as the German strongman (Daniel 8:23). Jesus Christ will personally defeat him and his Holy Roman Empire (verse 25), creating a 200-mile river of blood the height of a horse’s bridle (Revelation 14:20). But not before this seventh and final resurrection of the Holy Roman Empire scourges the Earth with more death and destruction than the previous six combined.
World Domination
The crown jewels of Charlemagne include an orb—a sign of the world. The goal of many European leaders, past and present, is world domination. The imperial sword shows us how they intend to accomplish this goal.
Hitler loved Charlemagne and wanted to imitate him in every way possible, wading through a sea of blood trying to conquer Europe. He became fiercely obsessed with the crown jewels while growing up in Vienna. “He insisted … that his early years in Vienna were absolutely crucial to his career because ‘at that time I formed an image of the world and a view of life which became the foundation for my actions …. I have had to change nothing’” (Robert G.L. Waite, The Psychopathic God—Adolf Hitler).
“This was the time in which the greatest change I was ever to experience took place in me,” Hitler wrote in Mein Kampf. “From a feeble cosmopolite I had turned into a fanatical anti-Semite.”
From 1910 onward, Hitler’s goal was to conquer the world—and he almost did. As a teenager, he thought of himself as the messiah of his people! He was heavily influenced by Satan the devil. Waite wrote:
Something clicked in the Pasewalk Hospital. It was there at the turn of the year 1918–1919 that Hitler resolved his identity problem and reached what he called ‘the most decisive decision of my life.’ For now, finally, he knew who he was and what he must do. He was the leader sent by destiny. He must answer the ‘voices’ that he said he heard—like Joan of Arc—distinctly calling him as he lay in his hospital bed. The voices told him to rescue his Motherland from the Jews who had violated her.
Satan inspired Hitler to hate the Jews!
British Prime Minister Winston Churchill speculated that Hitler’s motivation came from Munich in 1919, not from Vienna and the crown jewels of Charlemagne in 1910. He didn’t understand that Hitler’s political ideology originated with the vision of world domination he saw in the crown jewels!
Watch for Europe to become more and more excited about those “sacred” jewels. The bloody passion of Charlemagne will reawaken and shock the world!
“The [European] Community is living largely by the heritage of the Holy Roman Empire, though the great majority of the people who live by it don’t know by what heritage they live,” Otto von Habsburg said. The spirit of Charlemagne is brooding over Europe today.
After World War ii, U.S. President Franklin Roosevelt and Churchill pledged: “It is our inflexible purpose to destroy German militarism and Nazism, and to ensure Germany will never again be able to disturb the peace of the world.” How quickly we humans forget history!
Germany is arming itself as never before and already has access to nuclear bombs. This war-making nation needs only a strong leader like Charlemagne to galvanize Europe. He will take power through deception and flattery, pledging peace but bringing war (Daniel 11:21).
The German leader after World War ii, Conrad Adenauer, admitted that rearming Germany would be a calculated risk. Bible prophecy says it is a very bad risk!
The Allies spent only two years denazifying Germany before turning that project over to the Germans. What a farce! How foolish! It is past time we looked to God instead of men for world peace. When we do things our own way, tens of millions of people die.
We must hear and heed this warning to avoid being victimized by the 10 kings of the seventh and final resurrection of the Holy Roman Empire: “And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast. These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast. These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful” (Revelation 17:12-14).
Called, chosen, faithful: That could be you if you yield yourself to God before the Second Coming of Jesus Christ! That’s the good news, the positive outcome in all this chaos. The slaughterers in Europe will be slaughtered by Christ. Then He will rule the world with a rod of iron and bring all mankind peace and joy!
