Ronald Reagan said in 1986 that he felt “the nine most terrifying words in the English language are, ‘I’m from the government, and I’m here to help.’” Skepticism of big government has been one of the staples of conservatives in America and Britain; both Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher endorsed this view. Today, however, the parties they once represented are shifting views and encouraging people to believe government is the solution.
