Former President Barack Obama released a video endorsement of Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden on April 14. It came one day after Sen. Bernie Sanders’s endorsement for Biden. What will Obama’s endorsement mean for America?

The endorsement has shifted the Democratic agenda further to the left. Obama now promotes the socialist ideology of Sanders, with the “character and the experience” of Biden, which he said would “guide us through one of our darkest times.” Sanders’s agenda would bring sweeping reforms and high spending. It would be the most radical platform the Democrats have ever had. When Sanders was asked on cbs Evening News how much his reforms would cost, he answered that “nobody knows” and it is “impossible to predict” (January 24).

Obama has told voters that Biden now stands for Sanders’s agenda. “It sounded as if Mr. Obama was endorsing Mr. Biden, but on Mr. Sanders’s agenda,” wrote Karl Rove at the Wall Street Journal.

The former president called Sanders “an American original, a man who has devoted his life to giving voice to working people’s hopes, dreams and frustrations.” He praised the senator’s ability to reach the younger demographic, saying “nothing is more powerful than millions of voices calling for change” and “the energy and enthusiasm he inspired, especially in young people, will be critical in moving America in a direction of progress and hope.”

This sounds good, but there is a radical agenda behind it.

Obama stated that if he were running in 2020, his platform would be quite different from what it was in 2008—likely similar to that of Bernie Sanders. Consider his statement:

If I were running today, I wouldn’t run the same race or have the same platform as I did in 2008. The world is different. There is too much unfinished business for us to just look backwards. We have to look to the future. Bernie understands that. And Joe understands that. It’s one of the reasons that he already has what is the most progressive platform of any party nominee in history. Because even before the pandemic turned the world upside-down, it was already clear that we needed real structural change.

What is this “unfinished business” and “structural change” Obama is discussing? Trumpet Daily Radio Show executive editor Stephen Flurry stated that Obama’s comments are similar to his November 2019 statement to Democratic donors about tearing down and remaking the American system. “This is still a country that is less revolutionary than it is interested in improvement,” Obama said. “Even as we push the envelope and we are bold in our vision, we also have to be rooted in reality. The average American doesn’t think we have to completely tear down the system and remake it.“

Mr. Flurry noted that by endorsing Sanders’s agenda, Obama is pushing the Democratic campaign further to the left. The ultimate goal is to fundamentally transform the nation. “Their work is never over, it’s never complete, it’s never finished, until the entire system is brought down,” Mr. Flurry said.

This is what Trumpet editor in chief Gerald Flurry drew attention to in his March 2020 Trumpet article “America Has Been ‘Fundamentally Transformed’.” He showed that the Obama administration worked to transform America according to its own vision. This would have ended America’s reliance on the Constitution and expanded government power in unprecedented ways.

“Had Hillary Clinton been elected, the destructive trends that unfolded during the Obama presidency would have continued unchecked and surely would have intensified,” wrote Mr. Gerald Flurry. “Many people believe it would have meant an end to our constitutional republic!”

Right now, the Trump administration has greatly slowed this transformation. But it has not stopped the spread of provocative, angry rhetoric between rival political factions.

While endorsing Sanders, Obama stated that “the other side has a massive war chest,” referring to the Republican campaign’s record funding. “The Republicans occupying the White House and running the U.S. Senate are not interested in progress—they’re interested in power,” he stated.

Both these statements use military language. The Democrats are desperately trying to unify around a common foe: President Donald Trump.

Obama has a history of speaking negatively of President Trump. In 2016, he stated that Mr. Trump is “temperamentally unfit to be commander in chief” and even implied that Mr. Trump sympathized with the racist Ku Klux Klan. Divisive words like this can only lead to violence.

Mr. Flurry wrote about these tensions in “America’s Coming Civil War.” Two political forces and their supporters are going to clash. Radical, hate-filled language will become much more common. He explained:

Many Americans are troubled by the divisions and hatreds being expressed right now. But they need to be a lot more concerned than they are! The problems are going to get worse and worse until people get the message, and they learn why these disasters are happening!

Donald Trump’s win is a prophetic sign of impending civil war and anarchy, followed by America’s worst military defeat ever! But don’t blame the politicians or the race-baiters or the professional rioters. This situation exists in America only because of the sins of the nation—of all Americans! We can no longer ignore what we have reaped by giving ourselves over to sin. This is a reckoning!

The Bible speaks of this division in America today in several prophecies. Isaiah 1:7 shows that cities will be “burned with fire” due to rioting (read our free booklet Isaiah’s End-Time Vision for more information). Others discuss how short the time remaining is before this happens.

“And the Lord said unto me, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A plumbline. Then said the Lord, Behold, I will set a plumbline in the midst of my people Israel: I will not again pass by them any more” (Amos 7:8). In “America’s Coming Civil War,” Mr. Gerald Flurry wrote, “God has given many warnings over a period of many years, but America has ignored those warnings. So God says, This is the last warning. I’m not going to pass by again!”

What happens when this time comes? “And the high places of Isaac shall be desolate, and the sanctuaries of Israel shall be laid waste; and I will rise against the house of Jeroboam with the sword” (verse 9). This is speaking about end-time Israel, the United States and Britain, primarily.
