Russia Shelling Flooded Ukraine
Russia is shelling Ukrainian-held parts of Kherson that were affected by floodwaters from Tuesday’s Kakhovka dam rupture. Evacuation routes, evacuees and their rescues are all being targeted, according to eyewitnesses. On Thursday, one Russian missile barrage hit a school sheltering evacuees and injured nine civilians.
“The shelling began precisely during the evacuation of citizens whose homes were flooded,” Ukraine’s Interior Ministry said. This was also the same day that Ukrainian President Voldymyr Zelenskyy visited the region to show support to the rescuers and volunteers evacuating people from the flooded areas.
So many boats, so many volunteers, medics, rescuers [were] working when the shelling began. I don’t know how far it was from us. We started running for shelter. We hid in a nearby building and waited there as shelling continued.

Shellings became less intense when Russian forces were required to withdraw after floodwaters rose and pushed troops further back, but the shooting nevertheless continued.
Russian-occupied territory: When rescue workers tried reaching out to residents in towns along the Russian-occupied bank of the Dnipro River, Russian forces began shooting at them.
As soon as our helpers try to rescue them, they are shot at.
—Voldymyr Zelenskyy
Putin’s evil: Even as Ukrainians battle for their lives in floodwaters, Russian President Vladimir Putin has continued his wicked attack on Ukraine and is claiming the lives of innocent individuals.
The Russia-Ukraine War is giving the world a vivid picture of the scale of evil Putin is willing to commit. … Putin is an evil, ruthless, vindictive agent with Soviet-style methods of psychological warfare, assassination and war. He has disgusting and devastating policies that are sick to the core and even satanic!
