Denver Funds Migrants by Defunding the Police
Denver Mayor Mike Johnson is planning to cut the city’s police budget by $8.4 million to accommodate the influx of migrants. The plan is part of a wider $45 million cut from other city agencies, which will fund a new $89.9 million asylum-seeker program.
Crisis: Over the past 16 months, Denver has received over 40,000 migrants, more than any other United States city, costing over $68 million. More than half of that was spent between December 2023 and March 2024.
New program: The new plan will put an end to the hotel shelter system and will concentrate on providing six months of rent, food, job support and assistance in applying for asylum. This will apply to the approximately 1,000 migrants already in hotel shelters.
Newcomers who arrive after April 10 will be provided with temporary assistance before being moved to another city.
Support from police: Denver Police Chief Ron Thomas said during a press conference that law enforcement personnel “need to be partners in this endeavor.”
He also assured the public that the budget cut would not affect police services. “I’m certainly happy that we’ve found a pathway to help these migrants that are coming into our city,” he said.
Overthrown: Johnson described the asylum-seeker program as “compassionate” and “fiscally responsible.” However, the Bible says otherwise.
Your country lies desolate, your cities are burned with fire; in your very presence aliens devour your land; it is desolate, as overthrown by aliens.
—Isaiah 1:7; Revised Standard Version
America’s permissive borders and accommodating programs are destroying the country. The reestablishment of law is the only solution to the migrant crisis.
