The Precarious Future of Justin Trudeau

Is the Liberal dynasty about to end?

Justin Trudeau became a national figure on Oct. 3, 2000. While delivering the eulogy at the state funeral for his father, Pierre Trudeau, the 29-year-old became the heir apparent for the future of the Liberal Party.

“Friends, Romans, countrymen,” he began, “Pierre Elliott Trudeau. The very words convey so many things to so many people. Statesman, intellectual, professor, adversary, outdoorsman, lawyer, journalist, author, prime minister. But more than anything, to me, he was dad.” His father was perhaps the most controversial, and consequential, prime minister in Canadian history. He ended the eulogy by saying: “But this is not the end. He left politics in ’84 …. But he won’t be coming back anymore. It’s all up to us, all of us, now.”

This has been the mission of Justin Trudeau’s political career: finishing the political objectives of his father by transforming Canada into a postmodern, multicultural, Communist state. Yet it appears this mission may be coming to an end.

Facing a historically low approval rating of 30 percent, Trudeau has had a disastrous year. Currently behind the Conservative Party by 19 points in national polling, Trudeau’s government has lost two by-elections in historic Liberal strongholds. He has faced a revolt of the Liberal caucus and backbenchers (which would never materialize to anything since he signs their nomination papers—they would be committing political suicide). He has survived two votes of no confidence, with more to come. His future looks bleak.

But Justin Trudeau is no ordinary politician. When he gave his father’s eulogy, he did so from the altar of the Notre Dame Basilica in Montreal, the most prestigious Catholic building in the country. This is highly symbolic: At that moment, Justin Trudeau became the anointed, the chosen one to be the face of a massive political machine. This machine unites the interests of the Catholic Church, Barack Obama, the Desmarais family, the Chinese Communist Party, the Liberal Party and the Marxist movement. This machine has governed Canada, almost uninterrupted, for 50 years.

What is at stake in Trudeau’s political career is not the ambition of one man but billions of dollars, the interests of Canada’s governing machine, and the strategy of foreign governments. Don’t count on him meekly stepping aside.

The Machine Behind the Man

Most Canadians don’t know the name Paul Desmarais Sr. The Quebec billionaire kept a low political profile despite being one of the most influential individuals in the history of the nation. Starting from humble beginnings in Sudbury, Desmarais built a business empire that stretches into every sector of the world economy.

Power Corp. was the crown jewel, a parent company that owned insurance companies and financial services like Great West Financial, Canada Life, citic, Fintech, WealthSimple, Adidas, Lafarge and many more. Power Corp. is worth over $11 billion, and Desmarais had a personal wealth of $4 billion to $5 billion at his death. Most Canadians are unaware that he owned a substantial portion of the businesses they frequent from coast to coast.

Like George Soros, Desmarais used this vast wealth to push his political agenda. Desmarais lived at a crucial time in Canadian history, and his political influence shaped the destiny of the nation. He had two political connections through which his wealth and influence were exerted.

The first was his enduring friendship with Communist China. Desmarais became personal friends with the Politburo of the Chinese Communist Party (ccp). He was one of the first to do business with China and was the main force behind pushing Canada’s pro-China policy. Taking advantage of many Chinese pacifists in government, Desmarais’s influence was one of main reasons Canada recognized Communist China first in 1970, why Canada was the first to restore relations after the Tiananmen Square massacre, and why Canada turns a blind eye to Uyghur genocide. He regularly invited members of Parliament who were tough on China to Montreal and threatened them into submission. He was instrumental in giving China access to the Canadian market, intertwining their economies.

The second consequential connection was Pierre Trudeau. The coalition between Trudeau and Desmarais was transformational for Canada. Pierre Trudeau’s father died while he was young, so he was mentored by two Marxist-Jesuit priests: Marie Joseph d’Anjou and Rodolphe Dube. Dube, a prolific left-wing author, pushed Trudeau into the French philosophy of personalism. Personalism exalts human nature and the individual as the ultimate authority on morality and human conduct. Emmanuel Mounier, who attempted to reconcile Catholicism and communism into one ideology, was also influential on young Trudeau.

After traveling the world, learning from the most distinguished Marxist professors in France, Britain and the Soviet Union, Trudeau returned to Montreal and published a periodical, Cette Libre, advocating for Communist revolution in Canada. In 1960, Catholic priest Abbe Gerard Saint-Pierre called Trudeau “the Canadian Karl Marx.” Trudeau wrote in 1968 that the Canadian federal system was “a valuable tool which permits dynamic parties to plant socialist governments in certain provinces, from which the seeds of radicalism can slowly spread.” He also recognized that the Liberal Party was the perfect vehicle through which Communist infiltration could be achieved.

Who backed Trudeau’s political career with money, connection and influence? Paul Desmarais Sr. Together they constructed a political machine, uniting the Liberal Party, the ccp, the Catholic Church and the Marxist intellectual class. This machine has shaped every conceivable area of national life.

Pierre Trudeau fundamentally transformed the fabric of Canada through multiculturalism, his pro-China policy, amassing federal power, changing the Constitution to permanently legislate his values and agenda into the future, changed education into propaganda, legalized abortion and homosexual “marriage,” and turned Canadian society to the radical left. And this machine didn’t quit in 1984 when Trudeau retired from politics. Every subsequent prime minister, with the exception of Stephen Harper, has had direct connections to Desmarais and has continued his agenda, whether Liberal or Conservative.

  • Brian Mulroney, Conservative prime minister from 1984 to 1993, worked at Power Corp. as a lawyer and was a personal friend of Desmarais, continuing his pro-China policy while in office.

  • Jean Chretien, Liberal prime minister from 1993 to 2003, was Pierre Trudeau’s minister of Justice and one of his key lieutenants. Chretien is married to Desmarais’s daughter and worked on the Power Corp. board of directors.

  • Paul Martin, Liberal prime minister from 2003 to 2006, was a Power Corp. executive assistant and became ceo of a subsidy after resigning as prime minister.

  • Justin Trudeau, prime minister since 2015, continues the dynasty.

Prime ministers who have been directly influenced by Desmarais have ruled Canada for 45 of the past 55 years. Desmarais’s connections don’t end within the borders of Canada either. He was close friends to Nikolas Sarkozy of France, U.S. presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush, and even had influence in the United Nations.

Paul Desmarais is aptly named; Desmarais means “swamp” in English. This is the Canadian “swamp” backing Justin Trudeau.

Deliverance

Justin Trudeau’s rise to power brought one final strand into this vast political juggernaut: Barack Obama. The Democratic Party, and Obama’s Chicago political machine, helped modernize the Canadian political machine backing Trudeau. Desmarais’s money paid for Obama to mentor and support the younger Trudeau starting in 2015.

This vast political machine has fulfilled many key Bible prophecies. The late Herbert W. Armstrong warned and prophesied of a Communist infiltration that would subvert the United States and British Commonwealth (read about this in our booklet He Was Right). This machine is that prophesied Communist infiltration in Canada, where it has caused bitter affliction, as 2 Kings 14:26 warned: “For the Lord saw the affliction of Israel, that it was very bitter: for there was not any shut up, nor any left, nor any helper for Israel.”

This Communist infiltration has seemed invincible; however, God is personally intervening to save us one last time. “And the Lord said not that he would blot out the name of Israel from under heaven: but he saved them by the hand of Jeroboam the son of Joash” (verse 27). God is using the miraculous political comeback of Donald Trump, a modern type of Jeroboam ii, to save America from bitter affliction. This is all explained in Trumpet editor in chief Gerald Flurry’s book America Under Attack.

The election victory on November 5 has changed the world. Obama and his political machine are being silenced, and the rest of the world is working to align with the incoming Trump administration.

Will silencing Obama disrupt the Trudeau political machine? Will Trump’s victory cause a Conservative wave in Canada? Trudeau is in a precarious position, but is the will of the voters enough to break this political machine’s grip on the levers of power?

The only way this Liberal dynasty will end is by the will of God. Deliverance comes only from God. “[T]he most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men” (Daniel 4:17).

Fulfilled prophecy should build our faith in the living God! It should also cause us to repent of our sins and turn to God in humility. No matter what happens to Trudeau, this is what God wants in your life: repentance and faith. Whether or not there is change in Canada’s government, God wants to see real change in our lives. That is how we can find real freedom (John 8:32).
