Brazil Closes Chinese-Led Slave-Like Construction Site
Brazil stopped the construction of a Chinese-run factory in its state of Bahia because of the “slavery-like conditions” the Chinese workers were subjected to, the state prosecutor’s office said Monday.
The Chinese electric vehicle firm Build Your Dreams (byd) had 163 Chinese workers at its factory in Bahia. They were tasked with making batteries for eBuses sold by byd in Latin America. These workers were:
- hired by a Chinese firm and brought to Brazil irregularly
- denied passports and payment
- forced to sleep on beds without mattresses
- forced to work longer than Brazilian law allows, sometimes seven days a week
- forced to share a small bathroom with 30 other workers
- required to ask permission to leave their lodgings
The worksite was also very dangerous.
byd says it has cut ties with the firm that hired these workers and that the affected workers were moved to hotels.
Prophesied suffering: The Bible warns of a prophesied “times of the Gentiles,” which we are in the early stages of. These slave-like conditions found in Brazil foreshadow the suffering of this times of the Gentiles. As this era continues, such conditions and far worse will become more widespread.
