Biden Rescues 37 Criminals From Death Row

United States President Joe Biden lightened the sentences of 37 criminals out of 40 criminals on federal death row to life in prison without parole, the White House announced on Monday.

Pledge: This is the biggest step Biden has taken to keep the promise he made in 2020 to abolish the death penalty.

All 40 criminals have murdered at least one person, and some are also guilty of kidnapping and carrying out deadly bank robberies.

Earlier this month, Biden reduced the sentences of another 1,500 criminals along with 39 pardons.

Prolonged: Many of these executions should have been carried out long ago, but implementation of the death penalty was put on hold for 20 years. Donald Trump resumed executions during his first presidential term. However, when Biden took office, he halted the process again.

I am more convinced than ever that we must stop the use of the death penalty at the federal level. In good conscience, I cannot stand back and let a new administration resume executions that I halted.

Recusing people from the consequences of law breaking does not always constitute mercy, nor will it produce peace.
