Tens of Thousands Chant ‘Death to Israel’ at Nasrallah’s Funeral

Tens of thousands of mourners chanted “Death to Israel” as Israeli fighter jets flew overhead at Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah’s funeral in Beirut, Lebanon, on Sunday.

Nasrallah was killed in an Israeli air strike five months ago, but his funeral was postponed until Israel withdrew its troops from southern Lebanon under the terms of the Israel-Lebanon ceasefire agreement.

Ceremony: In a public ceremony on Sunday, the coffins of Nasrallah and his slain predecessor, Hashem Safieddine, were draped in Hezbollah flags and paraded through the Camille Chamoun Sports City Stadium, Lebanon’s biggest sports arena.

Organizers said the stadium, which seats up to 78,000 people, was overflowing. One Lebanese official said the estimated crowd size was 450,000; others claimed over 1 million people were there.

Lebanon’s new president, Joseph Aoun, and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam were not present at the ceremony; their representatives attended instead.

Israel’s display: During the procession, Israel flew warplanes over the stadium to “convey a clear message,” Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said. “Whoever threatens to destroy Israel and attack Israel—it will be their end.”

When the fighter jets flew over, the crowd at the funeral began chanting, “Death to Israel. Death to America. We respond to your call, Nasrallah.”

During the funeral, Israel also released video footage of the Sept. 27, 2024, air strike that killed Nasrallah. Israel had dropped 82 bombs on the Iran-backed terrorist group’s underground headquarters in southern Beirut, killing Nasrallah and 20 other top Hezbollah commanders.

Bad sign: While Hezbollah’s influence in Lebanon is diminishing, the events at Nasrallah’s funeral show that the people of Lebanon still have grievances with Israel.

The Trumpet has closely watched as Iran’s leverage in Lebanon through its terrorist proxy Hezbollah has slipped, fulfilling Bible prophecy. As Trumpet editor in chief Gerald Flurry explains in his booklet The King of the South, the Bible prophesies that in the end time Lebanon will be allied with a German-led Europe, not Iran.

These end-time prophecies say that this German-led Europe, after allying with moderate Arab nations, will go on to conquer “the glorious land,” Jerusalem (Daniel 11:41).

Leadership in Lebanon is changing, but this is still not good news for Israel.
