What Cartoons Reveal About Islam
The largest newspaper of the Palestinian Authority published a cartoon Tuesday that encourages Muslims to pray for “Allah” to kill Americans.
The cartoon, printed in the PA-controlled Al Hayat al Jadida, depicts a Muslim man kneeling in a prayer ritual. The words of his prayers appear on four missiles aimed at an American B-2 stealth airplane: “Allah, scatter them!” “And turn their wives into widows!” “And turn their children into orphans!” “And give us victory over them!”
The Palestinian Authority is controlled by the Fatah party and Mahmoud Abbas, who is considered “moderate” by Israel and the United States.
The cartoon has yet to be picked up by major Western newswires.
It turns out that the West has been silent and/or oblivious to a vast gallery of Arabic cartoons as widespread as it is gruesome. Mainstream Muslim media regularly print the most offensive, gory and intolerant cartoons in publication, featuring a sickening slew of depictions that can be fairly described not only as offensive and intolerant of Westerners, but also blood-soaked and demonic. Grotesque cartoons portraying U.S., British and Israeli leaders, Westerners and Jews as butchers of Muslims, and as Hitler and Satan, are commonplace.
Not only is the Western world fair game for the most demonically creative Muslim artist, but many Muslim countries outlaw other cultures and religions altogether. In 2001, the Taliban used artillery and missiles to literally explode every non-Islamic religious symbol in Afghanistan. In several Muslim countries, having a cross, Star of David, Buddha, or other non-Islamic religious symbol is banned. Possessing a Bible or converting to Christianity is illegal and sometimes punishable by death. Bibles are frequently and systematically confiscated, desecrated and destroyed. In 2002, Islamic terrorists in Bethlehem reportedly used the Bible as toilet paper.
And yet—when it comes to cartoons or media Islam deems offensive, many are anything but tolerant. Consider the savage murder of Dutch filmmaker Theo van Gogh; the riots, arsons and murders that followed the (later proven false) reports of U.S. interrogators putting Korans in toilets at Guantanamo; the worldwide violence Muslims set off in response to cartoons in a Danish newspaper.
Those Muslims who insist that the West respect and honor Islam-related symbols while they themselves simultaneously treat similar symbols of other cultures and religions with contempt do not suffer from mere hypocrisy. Their aim is to impose their version of Islamic law on the rest of the world. For some, that goal justifies violent riots, arson, even brutal acts of murder.
To this point, the response to these attacks—by stark contrast to Muslim response to Western “provocations”—has been limited to little more than words of protest.
Evidence is mounting, however, that some, particularly in Europe, are reaching a breaking point. Stronger responses are beginning to appear, with politicians speaking out against weak immigration laws, cracking down on known havens of Islamic militancy, and complaining about the profusion of mosques on European soil.
One of the Danish cartoons that set off such a furor depicted a frightened artist hunched over his drawing of Muhammed, worriedly looking over his shoulder in fear of attack. As prophetic as that image proved to be, many of the chaotic and bloody drawings from the Muslim side of the page foreshadow much worse events to come. What is now playing out on the pages of the world’s newspapers reflects an irrepressible clash of two markedly different and irreconcilable civilizations.
The German- and Vatican-dominated European Union’s tolerance of Islam’s double standard and its violent imperialistic ambitions will soon pass its breaking point.
The Bible, which prophesied that a Catholicized Europe and Islam would each rise to world power, also prophesies that blood-spattered violence between Islam and Catholic-led Christianity will soon leap off the pages of newspapers and into reality. It also predicts that the English-speaking nations led by the United States and Britain will fade from the world scene.
The good news is that this mounting bloody crisis immediately precedes the greatest, most Earth-shaking event ever: Jesus Christ’s return. For more on what the Bible says about this subject, read “The Coming War Between Catholicism and Islam” by editor in chief Gerald Flurry.
