Has the Islamic State Infiltrated U.S. Homeland Security?
A man affiliated with the Islamic State murdered 49 people at a homosexual nightclub in Orlando, Florida, over the weekend. In the early hours of June 12, gunman Omar Mir Seddique Mateen entered the club armed with a high-powered assault rifle and started shooting. Over the next three hours, the jihadist injured 53 people, in addition to the 49 murdered.
As Trumpet writer Callum Wood reported, this attack is the worst mass shooting in American history and the worst terrorist attack since 9/11.
Before beginning his attack, Mateen called the 911 emergency service and pledged his allegiance to the Islamic State.
The killer held an associates degree in criminal justice and worked as a security guard for G4S, a British multinational security service company with U.S. operations based in Jupiter, Florida. The fact that G4S is a major contractor for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has raised serious concerns about sympathizers and agents of the Islamic State infiltrating the federal agency set up to combat jihadi terrorism after the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
G4S supports the U.S. Department of Homeland Security by transporting “illegal immigrants in selected urban areas,” according to a company brochure titled “Providing Manpower Solutions for Government Services.”
A June 3 report from Judicial Watch reveals that G4S was “quietly transporting illegal immigrants from the Mexican border to Phoenix [, Arizona,] and releasing them without proper processing or issuing court appearance documents.” It’s still unclear whether Mateen worked on federal contracts for his employer. He was assigned to guard the pga Village Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida, according to local newspaper TC Palm.
Despite the fact that Omar was interviewed by agents from the federal bureau of investigation twice on suspicions that he supported jihadist groups, he was licensed to be a security officer in Florida, according to state records.
As Paul Sperry, Hoover Institution fellow, reports for Counter Jihad:
It’s not clear if the 29-year-old Mateen worked on any federal contracts or dealt with federal inmates. One of his jobs was to help transport and guard state and local prisoner youths in Florida. The subsidiary he worked for—G4S Secure Solutions USA Inc.—is based in Jupiter, Fla., which is located just south of Mateen’s home in Fort Pierce, Fla.
It’s also not immediately known if he had federal security clearances, or what kind of security background check G4S administered before hiring Mateen. But he continued to guard prisoners despite reports he openly praised [the Islamic State] in conversations with coworkers, and even though he had been under federal investigation for terrorism ties since at least 2013.
Federal officials are working hard to downplay Mateen’s connection to the Islamic State, and even harder to downplay his links to a subcontractor of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Instead, U.S. President Barack Obama is using this mass shooting as yet another excuse to push his gun control agenda. The problem with this “solution” is that the Obama administration’s proposed gun control policies would only be effective in keeping guns out of the hands of law-abiding citizens.
Gun control advocates say that killings like this would be more rare if the federal government could expand its power to ban more people from owning guns, or if it could ban the existence of entire classes of guns. Americans concerned about their civil liberties say that the gun-control agenda destroys the Second Amendment’s restraint on federal power, allowing an already massive and oppressive federal government to become even more massive and even more oppressive.
The Obama administration has proved it has no problem giving away firearms to violent drug cartel operatives. Another Judicial Watch report from May reveals that the death toll from President Obama’s notorious Fast and Furious covert program to gift assault weapons to Mexican drug cartels now stands at 200, after another 69 deaths were recently reported. It’s starting to look like the government is fine with giving assault weapons to drug cartel operatives and agents of the Islamic State as long as law-abiding citizens are denied them.
This latest shooting raises many chilling questions. The potential dangers posed by a government that—whether out of stupidity or outright malice—is patently aiding and arming some of the world’s most brutal criminals is disturbing to contemplate.
It is becoming increasingly clear that the American people need to end their collective obsession with constantly making new laws and regulations—and instead actually start keeping the higher laws that God gave mankind from the beginning.
