Presbyterians Gender-Neutralize “Trinity”

On Monday, June 19, delegates at the Presbyterian Church’s national assembly voted to “receive” a policy paper on “gender-inclusive language” for the trinity—the belief in a triune God made up of “Father, Son and Holy Spirit.” This means Presbyterians are one step away from requiring congregations to refer to the supposed members of the trinity using language like “Mother, Child and Womb,” “Rock, Redeemer, Friend,” “Lover, Beloved, Love,” or “Creator, Savior, Sanctifier.”

According to breitbart.com,

A panel that worked on the issue since 2000 said the classical language for the trinity should still be used, but added that Presbyterians also should seek “fresh ways to speak of the mystery of the triune God” to “expand the church’s vocabulary of praise and wonder.”One reason is that language limited to the Father and Son “has been used to support the idea that God is male and that men are superior to women,” the panel said.

The Bible reveals that God created mankind “in our image, after our likeness” (Genesis 1:26). This effort to gender-neutralize Scripture is a breathtaking example of individuals creating a god in their image, after their likeness. Rather than accepting the biblical truth that God’s thoughts are higher than our thoughts (Isaiah 55:9), these theologians are cutting the cloth of divinely inspired Scripture to suit their own, self-willed thoughts.

Is it possible that God is revealed as a Father and a Son for specific reasons—perhaps beyond the ken of minds so addled by political correctness? Jesus Christ praised His Father for revealing truth only to those with a humble, childlike attitude (Matthew 11:25; see also Isaiah 66:1-2).

It may come as a shock, but even the idea of a “Father, Son, Holy Spirit” trinity is directly challenged by several scriptures in the Bible. Some conservative Presbyterians are aghast at the anti-biblical gender-neutralization of this concept—but is it possible that even that very concept is itself anti-biblical?
