British Academia: Helping Iran Help Russia Hurt Ukraine?
The Jewish Chronicle reported on June 8 that at least 11 British universities are or have been involved in collaborative projects with Iranian partners that have potential military applications. The United Kingdom currently has a ban on selling military or “dual-use” technology to Iran. But somehow, the university projects have flown under the radar of the UK government.
The Jewish Chronicle report included such prestigious schools as the University of Cambridge, Imperial College London and the University of Glasgow. Some of the research may have even been used to support Russia in the Ukraine War.
A couple of examples:
- Imperial College and two Iranian universities published research in 2019 on upgrading the particular engines used to power drones. This would include the hesa Shahed 136, the so-called “kamikaze drone” used by Russia against Ukraine. The research had the “support” of Iran’s Ministry of Science, Research and Technology.
- The Jewish Chronicle found over 200 papers written by Shahid Beheshti University in collaboration with British academics. One of them was on counterespionage technology. The British government has sanctioned Shahid Beheshti University since 2011. The university has connections to Iran’s nuclear program.
Britain has had its fair share of foreign military subversion in recent years. In 2021, it was revealed that China had been conducting similar collaborative projects in Britain. Iran’s case is different. Iran supplies its so-called “suicide drones” (like the hesa Shahed 136) to Russia. The drones’ affordability and ability to sow terror have made it a prized weapon in Russia’s arsenal.
Britain supports Ukraine in the war. But these negligent policies inadvertently mean Britain is also supporting Russia.
What prophecy says: The British people descended from the ancient biblical patriarch of Ephraim. (See here for more information.) Hosea 7:8-9 reads: “Ephraim allows himself to be mixed up with foreigners …. Foreigners eat away his strength, unknown to him; grey hairs are on him here and there, unknown to him” (Moffatt translation). Verse 10 says curses like foreign subversion are plaguing Britain because “they do not return to the Lord their God, nor seek him for all this.” Until the British people repent of their rebellion against God and His law, curses like these will continue to spiral.
