Mass Stabbing in Sydney
A 40-year-old man went on a stabbing spree at a shopping mall near Sydney’s Bondi Beach in Australia, Saturday afternoon. Joel Cauchi killed five women and one man, injuring several more, including a 9-month-old baby.
Police have said there are no indications of terrorism so far and that Cauchi was probably mentally ill. He may have targeted women, given that the only male casualty was a security guard at the mall. Twelve of the victims not killed were also women.
Cauchi’s father said he was a schizophrenic and had a “fascination with knives.”
What causes such violence? There is an important spiritual cause behind these kinds of tragic stories. Trumpet managing editor Joel Hilliker explained it in his article “Bath Salts Do Not Turn People Into Flesh-Eating Zombies.”
