Scholz Visits China

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is in the middle of a three-day trip to China. The two countries were close under Angela Merkel, with commentators discussing the German-Chinese special relationship.

Several geopolitical factors have driven them apart, but Scholz is putting a priority on repairing the relationship.

All business: As with most critical foreign-policy decisions, Scholz is heavily influenced by German businesses. Executives from Mercedes-Benz, bmw and chemical giant basf are accompanying him on his trip.
