America’s National Pride Near Record Low

A mere 41 percent of Americans, or 2 out of 5, say they are “extremely proud” to be an American, according to a recent Gallup poll.

  • 26 percent say they are “very proud.”
  • 18 percent are “moderately proud.”
  • 10 percent are “only a little” proud.
  • 5 percent are “not at all” proud.

Near record low: Americans who are extremely or very proud make up only 67 percent of the population, just 4 percentage points above the record low of 63 percent in 2020. Before 2017, this percentage was never lower than 75.

Political divide: A noticeable difference was seen between political parties of those who are “extremely proud” to be American:

  • 59 percent of Republicans
  • 34 percent of Democrats
  • 36 percent of independents

Patriotism: America just celebrated the 248th anniversary of its independence yesterday, but the nation’s patriotism is at an all-time low.
