More Than 30,000 Died by Medically Assisted Suicide Last Year
Doctors facilitated the deaths of more than 30,000 people around the world last year, the Telegraph reported on Tuesday.
The Telegraph analyzed the records of legally assisted suicide ahead of a vote to be held Friday in the United Kingdom on whether to legalize assisted dying in the nation.
- The report found that in some countries, as many as one in 20 deaths are now assisted.
- The number of deaths by medically assisted suicide has doubled in five years.
Medically assisted suicide is already legal in many nations, including Canada, the Netherlands and Belgium. It is also legal in California and Oregon.
Dr. Gordon MacDonald, the chief executive of Care Not Killing, warns of the slippery slope of legalizing medically assisted suicide or euthanasia, saying:
These figures show once you legalize assisted suicide or euthanasia, the numbers of those being killed and the reasons why, only ever go in one direction. Just look at Canada.
Itβs not just Canada where we see problems. In the Netherlands and Belgium, we have seen a massive expansion of who can be euthanized. Chillingly, this includes non-mentally competent adults, people with mental health problems and even young children and disabled babies.
The Trumpet said: The Bible prophesies of the moral decline crippling the United States, Britain and Canada. That is why the Trumpet closely watches trends that reflect the moral degeneration of these Western powers. Medically assisted suicide is just one of the many potent ways the West is paving its own path to destruction.
