China Studying Russia in Preparation for Taiwan Conflict

Chinese researchers are studying how Russia is surviving under Western sanctions, in preparation for a possible invasion of Taiwan that would likely trigger even weightier sanctions, the Wall Street Journal reported on December 1.

Full story: Soon after Russia invaded Ukraine, China set up a research group aimed at studying the effect of Western sanctions on Moscow. Beijing knows it will face similar sanctions should it pursue full unification with Taiwan and seeks to know how to avoid a major hit.

  • China has a law that states it must take Taiwan, militarily or not.

The Russian Central Bank, Finance Ministry and other agencies frequently welcome Chinese officials to share information on the matter. Beijing wants to know how to endure such sanctions and if they bring any positive effects.

  • Alexander Gabuev, director of the Carnegie Russia Eurasia Center, described Russia as a “sandbox on how sanctions work and how to manage them.”

Prophesied fall: Trumpet editor in chief Gerald Flurry said in 1998 that Taiwan will eventually fall to China “for one reason: because of a pitifully weak-willed America.”

This Wall Street Journal report indicates that the threat of sanctions, even a robust set that would deal a major blow to China’s economy, will not be enough to deter China’s planned invasion of Taiwan. If America is too weak-willed to stand up to the Chinese Communist Party, China’s invasion could happen soon.
