Ukraine Lacks Strength to Retake Territory
Ukraine does not have the military strength needed to retake all the territory it has lost to Russia since 2014, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told Le Parisien on Wednesday.
Zelenskyy is still unwilling to give up these territories, largely due to understanding that a permanent Russian presence would open the door to further invasions into Ukraine. But since Ukraine lacks the military power, it has to rely on allies to help it stand up to Russian aggression.
War update:
- Russia currently occupies about 18 percent of Ukraine.
- Ukraine’s recovery of territory has slowed since 2022, and its 2023 offensive saw limited success.
- Russia is currently on the offensive.
